The ins and outs of towing feel like second nature to folks who have been doing it their whole lives. But everyone has to start somewhere, and if you’re new to your truck’s towing equipment, Chevy has introduced a couple features on the newest Silverado that will help you out. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado offers helpful features from a checklist to advanced braking features to help keep you safe and capable on the road.
Right from the start of your towing task, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado will offer you a handy Tow Connection Checklist. This checklist runs you through all the steps you’ll need to complete in order to safely tow your trailer. You can view the checklist from the Silverado’s infotainment display, or from your phone thanks for the myChevrolet app. This new feature makes it easy to make sure you’re taking every precaution and ticking all the boxes before you tow.
The rearview camera also comes with some upgrades to help your trailering process. Chevy’s new-and-improved system now has three standard cameras plus an optional fourth to show you what’s behind your truck. Plus, there’s a new hitch view that includes an on-screen line icon. The line moves with your steering inputs so that you can easily line up and reverse to where you need to be. The hitch view makes it easier to line up to your trailer hitch then just using the standard guidelines on a backup camera. Plus, the 2019 Silverado will automatically engage the parking brake if you put it in park while you’re in hitch view mode, so that it doesn’t move and undo your careful work.
Another handy feature included in the checklist is the trailer light test. Like many aspects of trailering, this task is usually a two-person job, but the Silverado’s tech makes it easy to do on your own. Simply start the light test sequence, and then walk around the trailer at your leisure to make sure that all the lights are working and connected. The lights test, like the rest of the trailering checklist feature, can also connect directly to your smartphone with the myChevrolet app.
You’ll also find industry-first features on the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, like the Trailer Theft Alert system. This system can activate the truck’s lights and horn alarms if the trailer becomes unplugged while your truck is parked. You can even set up your OnStar Safety and Security notifications so that you get theft alerts by phone, text, or email, as well.
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado’s new trailering technology makes it easy to get the job done. There are lots of other helpful tools included to give you shortcuts and helping hands. Customizable trailering profiles let you track info like trailer milage, tire pressure, maintenance reminders, and Tow/Haul reminders for your individual trailers, so it’s a few less things you have to keep track of.
