The all-new 2020-Chevrolet Silverado 1500 made its debut and it’s nothing short of extraordinary. This release comes with a few external changes like new color options, slight changes to equipment packages and potential new features like an oversized moonroof. Although these exterior changes are great, what makes this release significant is the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine now available as an option.
More About the Duramax Diesel Engine
Instead of making a V6 engine like the competition, Chevrolet opted to make the Duramax a straight-six engine. The straight-six layout consumes more space in the engine compartment but it will run smoother and make more torque. The Duramax has tentative ratings of 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The Duramax engine also has an aluminum block, which saves weight over traditional iron. Chevy claims that the change to aluminum will reduce the Silverado’s weight by 25 percent. The engine will also feature an aluminum double overhead cam (CDHC) cylinder head. The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 diesel will most likely be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, making it a well-equipped truck for any situation.
Diesel engines are sought-after for both performance and fuel economy. Diesel engines offer improved towing capabilities compared to gasoline engines. They can carry and tow heavier loads with ease because diesel engines generate more torque than gasoline engines. Another benefit is that diesel can be purchased at any fuel station and it’s typically less expensive than gas. Diesel fuel also lasts longer making it perfect for those long hauling jobs. Vehicles that run on diesel also offer a better resale value than gas. This higher resale value makes it a smarter choice for consumers who are considering purchasing a new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
Other Changes to The Silverado
Other changes coming to the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 include the addition of trailering technologies. This is a really nice feature that offers an “invisible trailer” camera that lets you see directly behind you when towing. This technology consists of a camera system with 15 viewpoints that enable this view. Other changes include the adaptive cruise control feature. The adaptive cruise control features a single high-mounted camera behind the rear-view mirror. This camera scans the road to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. It also has full traffic jam assist, which brings the truck to a complete stop when necessary and accelerates back up to cruising speed. This system integrates with the stop/start system to help optimize fuel efficiency. A few more changes coming to the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 include the introduction of an oversized moonroof and the addition of a MultiPro tailgate. Chevy also promises a refreshed infotainment system and a slight change to the interior design of the cabin.
Purchasing a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Diesel
Because of the increasing demand for more efficient vehicles with lower emissions, diesel technology keeps improving and there are no signs of it stopping. If you’re considering investing in a new truck with a diesel engine, now is the best time to buy! The Duramax diesel engine will be available in the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. This model will go to dealerships in the fall of 2019. Chevrolet stated that the option for a diesel engine will be priced identically to the 6.2-liter gasoline v8.
