General Motors has announced it’s next-generation hands-free driving tech. It’s called Ultra Cruise, and it comes to market in 2023. It will cover two million miles of paved roads in the U.S. and Canada at launch.
The system works through cameras, radars and LiDar to capture a 360-degree view around your car. Then it can control your steering, acceleration and braking. It can also follow navigation routes, turn from one road to another, obey speed limits, and react to stoplights and stop signs.
Ultra Cruise will be implemented in Cadillacs first, then Chevys and GMCs. This new tech builds on Super Cruise, which first launched in 2017. That works with your car’s adaptive cruise control, enhanced automatic emergency braking, and lane keeping assist systems. It covers 200,000 miles of highways.
