More details are emerging about the all-electric Chevrolet Silverado. The brand says the pick-up will have a four-wheel steering system. This will allow all of its wheels to turn at once. The front ones turn opposite the back ones when you’re driving faster. And they all turn in the same direction when you’re driving slower. Here’s how that helps you:
- It tightens the turning radius at lower speeds.
- It gives you better handling and control at higher speeds.
- It improves your steering response.
- It helps you change lanes faster.
- It makes the vehicle more stable, which makes it safer.
This EV will also have 24-inch wheels. It will run on one of General Motor’s Ultium batteries. And Chevy promises it will have up to 400 miles of total driving range. Production of this truck is expected to begin in 2023.
GM’s EV Promise
GM has built it’s first fully dedicated electric assembly plant, called Factory Zero. That’s where the new Silverado will be made. The company plans to offer 30 new electric models by 2025. It’s even investing over $3 billion per year in EV development through at least 2025.
They’ll range from 50 kWh to 200 kWh capacity. Tesla’s biggest battery is only 100 kWH. They’ll also have 70 percent less cobalt than other EV batteries. That makes them more environmentally-friendly. And they’re all expected to cost under $100 kWH. The average price for an EV battery was $156 kWh in 2019.
