We are only a month away from the release of the new 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2, available in mid march. If you’re into off-roading here in Minnesota, you may have heard that the MN DNR recently announced that they plan on opening over 400 miles of off-roading trails in the near future. So will this new off-roading beast, the Colorado ZR2, be the best truck for us here in the northern midwest?
Well, there are some interesting new changes to this Chevy Colorado from its predecessor. First, it’s 500 pounds lighter and almost a foot narrower. The Colorado’s size has always made it great at getting into a wide array of places, so this new model will be even more versatile. Next, they’ve widened its tracks by 3.5 inches and given it similar dampers to the ones used in a Camaro Z/28 race car. This, according to Chevrolet, should increase handling performance significantly. It can still tow too, up to 5,000 pounds, enough for some jet skis or a camper.
So will this truck be able to handle our snowy winters as well as our summer off-road adventures? Well, the 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2 has an off-road mode specifically for snow, mud, and dirt, which might actually be perfect. Also, the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tires, ABS, and traction control might just make this the most well equipped truck for the roughest road conditions. It’s even capable of full on rock crawling.
