Exciting things have happened to the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox with a completely new design. The all-new version of this compact SUV brings three new engines, including a turbo-charged diesel. This means more power and even better fuel economy than previous versions and people are stoked about it. Both the diesel and the new 1.5L engine are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The new Equinox has also dropped 400 pounds of weight and shortened by four inches, enhancing overall aerodynamics.
A 9-speed automatic transmission has also been added to pair with the new 2.0L engine. This combination will give you the 3,500 pound towing ability, something that’s always been unique about this compact SUV. Currently only the 1.5L is available, but the other two will hit markets in summer of 2017. Inside the vehicle is the same spaciousness and style we’ve come to expect from the Equinox, with the addition of a new denim looking cloth interior option. The rear seats can now also be folded in Chevy’s “kneeling” seat system way that allows for fully flat folding.
Overall the all-new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox offers much better fuel economy and even more power than its predecessors. New colors like “Ivy Metallic,” and “Orange Burst Metallic” allow drivers to add a bit more personality to the exterior as well. This SUV offers a comfortable and quiet ride for all passengers making it an ideal cross-country family hauler and daily work vehicle alike.

Lighter and shorter than the 2017 model, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox features a brand new design. New to the series, and standard in the Premier trim, is a surround vision system. This lets you get a virtual bird’s eye view of where the SUV is in relation to everything around you by utilizing four cameras around the exterior of the vehicle. Teen Driving Technology is another new feature that was added, which allows drivers to control and monitor how their teen drives the vehicle.
A popular and unique feature of this compact SUV is it’s ability to tow. The new 2.0L turbo charged engine is what will give you the power to tow up to 3,500 pounds. If you have this engine in your Equinox, you’ll also have a Tow/Haul mode button. Also newly available is heated rear seats, which are great for passengers that live in colder northern climates.
Drivers can also enjoy a hands-free gesture liftgate, which means you can use your foot to make the trunk open when your hands are full. Another update is the Redline series addition, available in other Chevy vehicles as well, which gives the SUV a unique design with special features like black window trim and a black grille. There are five other available packages as well which can add things like a sunroof, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, and roof racks, among others.
This all-new model of the Equinox comes with the brand new addition of a 1.6L diesel engine. It’s turbo charged and fuel efficient too, estimated to get up to 40 mpg on the highway. Many people have been hoping for a diesel-powered option in the Equinox, and it will be available as soon as summer of 2017. According to Chevy it will be the only competitor in the North American segment to off this type of fuel efficient diesel engine.
If you’d still like to get awesome gas mileage but aren’t interested in using diesel fuel, there are two turbo-charged gas powered engines also available. First is a 1.5L Ecotec engine offering 170 horsepower, and up to 32 highway mpg when paired with FWD. Next is a 2.0L engine that will get up to 252 horsepower and gives you the towing capability of up to 3,500 pounds. Both the 1.5L and the 1.6L engines will stick with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.0L engine (also available summer 2017) will have the all-new nine-speed automatic transmission.
Turbo-charged engines work by using exhaust gas force to get more air into the engine than a non turbo-charged engine. This equates to more power and the ability to get up to speed quicker, even when hauling a heavy load. So the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is the most powerful one yet. It’s also super quiet, and offers smooth acceleration and braking.
Something else that’s new in the 2018 model is the switchable AWD and Tow/Haul buttons. Switchable all-wheel drive allows you to decide exactly when you want AWD to be working. You can switch between FWD and AWD while on the go, great for coming off of a snow-plowed highway onto an icy side road. AWD is available on all trims except for the L. Tow/Haul mode, which comes on with models equipped with the 2.0L engine, allows you to push a button and let your vehicle know when it’s time to assist with hauling. Both of these buttons really help to maximize the perfect balance between fuel economy and power.

They’ve redesigned the interior in the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox while still maintaining a spacious and robust feel. Seats come in perforated leather or the new denim-style cloth. They are available in shades of black, brown, and gray. The rear seats fold in a 60/40 split and fold flat to allow for 63.5 total cubic feet of cargo space. Although this is a compact SUV, neither front nor back passengers will feel like they’re being compacted because there is plenty of leg and head room for all.
Technology in this SUV has been updated as well, now with a 7 or 8-inch MyLink multimedia system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi. If you pay a monthly fee, you can connect up to seven devices with the SUV’s Wi-Fi hotspot. There are 6 speakers, bluetooth compatibility, wireless charging, and a noise control system to reduce outside noise. Both front and back passengers can enjoy 2 USB ports of their own, with two in both the front and back of the center console.
Chevrolet Complete Care comes included with your 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. Complete care includes 2 maintenance visits in the first two years or 24,000 miles that you own the SUV. It also includes 5 years of roadside assistance, 5 years of the OnStar basic plan, and a 3 month trial of the OnStar Guidance Plan.
This all new Equinox also comes with all of the latest in Chevy’s available safety technology. A rear vision camera comes standard in all models. Available technology includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist, Side Blind Zone Alert, and Lane Change Alert. Surround vision is another available feature that uses four cameras spread around the outside of the vehicle to give you a bird’s eye view of where it is. This is super useful for getting in and out of tight parking spaces.
Teen Driver Technology is another new standard safety feature which helps encourage your teen to engage in safe driving habits. With this feature you can limit certain vehicle features, like music for example, as well as prevent certain features from being turned off. Stabilitrak is also included, which is a system that helps you maintain control of your SUV during low-traction conditions.
