The Chevrolet Performance Camaro Drag Race Performance Program has officially added the Camaro ZL1 to its ranks! This performance program, started in 2016 with the Camaro SS, explores the capability of the Chevrolet Camaro on the drag strip. Through targeted performance, chassis and safety enhancements, and high-performance concept parts, the program pushes the limits of capability in this awesome performance car.
The Camaro ZL1 has taken the track by storm, so it’s only natural that it’s now included with the Drag Race Performance Program. The 2018 Camaro ZL1 ran a best 10.0-second quarter-mile at 137.78 mph! This special model shown at SEMA 2017 shows off development concept features, drag development components, and some ZL1 production features. Some of these high-performance parts include features that improve launch and traction attributes on the drag strip. Building on lessons they’ve learned from the Camaro Drag Performance program over the years, the Chevy team is evaluating several bolt-on features and calibrations for the ZL1, too. The team plans to continue testing into 2018 and make a portfolio of products to be released through Chevrolet Performance.
These targeted performance enhancements help push the Camaro ZL1 past its previous limits. Power-enhancing components helped push the supercharged LT4 engine to provide more than 700 horsepower. Meanwhile, the car’s launch control benefits from drag-focused calibrations, the electronic limited-slip differential, and magnetic ride control systems. This Drag Performance Camaro ZL1 also has production features like the available 10-speed automatic transmission and the dual-mode exhaust system. The Drag Development concept also features a cold air intake system, larger throttle body, smaller-diameter supercharger pulley, 110-octane calibration, transmission calibration, racing tires, a racing driver’s seat, and a roll cage. There are certain Performance Drag Development components like the solid cradle bushings as seen on the ZL1 1LE model, and a rear small brake system. This concept car also features officially licensed Chevy Performance parts like America Racing Headers long-tube headers and WELD Racing 16×10-inch rear wheels.
