Last week, Chevrolet revealed the first-ever 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Class 4, 5, and 6 chassis cab trucks! These customer-focused medium-duty trucks debuted at NTEA The Work Truck Show, showing-off their ready-made capability. Chevrolet engineers and designers spent time listening to what customers, upfitters, and dealers wanted to see in a new Silverado lineup. These three supremely capable conventional cab models are the answer!
The idea behind these new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado models is making work-ready trucks that are easy to upfit, easy to drive, easy to service, and easy to own. “Chevy’s designers and engineers were obsessed with making this Silverado the most customer-focused medium duty truck of any major competitor,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet. During the development process, the team took input from fleet managers, truck drivers, upfitters, technicians, and Chevrolet dealers to create the very best pickup possible.
These 2019 Chevrolet Silverado models present solutions to a number of problems and challenges that consumers come up against. For example, upfitters are frustrated with the cost and complexity that comes with the rivets, brackets, and fluid lines that interfere with body mounting. Therefore, the new Silverado Class 4, 5, and 6 models have factory-painted frames with one-piece frame rails, smooth and unobstructed top sections, and through-the-frame fuel fill lines. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado also offers seven Cab-to-Axle options ranging from 60 to 162 inches to avoid frame rails that are too short to accommodate longer cargo boxes. Other common obstacles include hood designs that force technicians to use ladders or take out other components during service. That’s why the new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado models have a lightweight, front-hinged “clamshell” hood. Combined with a 50-degree wheel cut, this design allows easy access to under-hood components.
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado team also designed these work-truck models to solve problems that drivers encountered. Pickup trucks often suffer from driving difficulties like poor driver’s seat perspective, bad low-speed maneuverability, and wide turning radiuses. Now, the Silverado Class 4, 5, and 6 models have solutions to these common complaints. The precisely crafted and contoured hood gives you an optimal perspective on the road. 50-degree wheel cuts mean that the Silverado’s maneuverability is excellent. Plus, the new Silverado models also cut down on noise, vibration, and harshness, and the need to retrofit your cabin to be more comfortable. An available factory-installed rear air suspension partners with triple-sealed doors and huck bolts throughout the frame, giving you better comfort and reduced noise.
This new Silverado lineup will begin production later in 2018. Chevrolet’s return to the conventional cab medium duty segment is a much-anticipated move, and there will be more information about these work-ready pickups as the year goes on! At this debut show, we learned that these trucks will be available with 2WD and 4WD, and they’ll come with a 6.6L Duramax diesel engine. Paired with an Allison transmission and a Power Take Off option, the new Silverado will come ready to work. Promising more flexibility, capability, and durability than ever, the upcoming 2019 Chevrolet Silverado lineup will be worth the wait.
